The green goddess smoothie, healthy, detox recipe
Sunday, ruddy sunday. What a day for staying inside all day in your pyjamas and watching homeland catch-up…. Mug after mug of tea, a little bit of blending and a spot of smoothie slurping. Ah yes!
Unfortunately, this weekend I have been feeling less than spritely and have been at mum’s house all weekend (apart from a bit of shopping yesterday…) bed bound and very delicate. I’ve been struck with a case of the tummy gripes. A side effect I have been assured is common when taking such strong pills… naturally something I have only been told after having begun the treatment. I am crossing my fingers and toes that my outrageously sensitive tummy calms down (at least a little) in the next few days. I can’t be going through the month like this!
On a lighter note, my skinny bitch* cooking classes have been featured in Grazia and on the Twenty Something London website. They are also going to be featured on Sheerluxe (next week)…. so they are selling out like hot cakes. Yippeee. It won’t be me alone in a room playing teacher on my own… (At 4 years old I was teacher Tess with my mini-oven, teaching cuddly toys to cook… Talk about a born foodie.) Anywho grab tickets now. When you feel green, there is nothing else to do but to eat green too! If a lawnmower full of veggies was what was my body needed then so be it… no half measures.
Voila the Green Goddess. I don’t think calling it a Kale and Rocket Smoothie sounds quite so appealing… do you?
This is smoothie packed with almost every green in the fridge, to revitalise, renew and refresh me for the week ahead (hopefully). This is the kinda magic juice that will make you see through walls. It tastes pretty darn good too.
I’d definitely recommend trying it with your morning breakfast, or (if time is an issue), throw it into a flask, or old water bottle, and slurp it through the day.
- 1 cup of Kale
- 1 cup of Rocket or Spinach
- 1 Apple, a tart pink lady or braeburn is best
- 1/8th Cucumber (optional)
- a few Mint Leaves
- a knob of Ginger, about 2 tsps when peeled and chopped finely
- Juice 1/4 Lemon
- 1/2 cup Almond Milk
- 1 heaped tsp Coconut Cream*
*If you have coconut milk, feel free to omit the coconut cream and almond milk and add just over 1/2 cup of coconut milk instead. You can also use coconut water instead of almond milk if you fancy.
Peel, core and chop the Apple (or just core and chop, if you’re lazy) and add to a blender with all the other ingredients. Be careful when adding the lemon that you don’t get pips.
Blitz until smooth, should take a couple of mins.
Try and enjoy it without getting a green moustache. I bet you can’t…
